Dear Friends of F that S,
I’ve entered TILT in an online contest to win a $5,000 grant to help create a nature trail in our Otter Creek Preserve in Alexandria Bay, NY. The contest is sponsored by GOOD magazine and the voting period runs until August 3rd. So please vote here and then forward to anyone you think might be interested supporting land conservation and family nature outings!
Overview of Outdoor Idea
The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) would like to create a trail system through the Otter Creek Preserve. This 1.05 mile foot-path would provide residents, and visitors, of the Alexandria Bay area with a nearby nature trail available as a recreational amenity to everyone in the community.
The Specifics: What will the $5,000 fund?
$5,000 would allow TILT to clear trees and brush (for trail, day-use, and camping areas), build foot-bridges where necessary, create signage (trail-markers and informational plaques), fund treks and educational outings for local families (as part of our TILTreks and KidsTrek series), and continue to steward the preserve for future generations to enjoy.
The TILT-owned Otter Creek Preserve is an important ecological asset to the Thousand Islands region, and creating an easily accessible way for the community to experience the geological characteristics and dozens of species (plants, mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians) that inhabit the preserve will create pride and inspire stewardship for residents and visitors to the region.
